• High-performance machine vision software for industrial automation • AI technologies and deep learning in the spotlight • Live demonstrations highlight innovative applications with HALCON and MERLIC
Munich, May 13, 2026 - As a long-standing player in the North American market, MVTec Software GmbH (www.mvtec.com) will once again exhibit at Automate this year. From June 22 to 25, the machine vision software provider will be showcasing at booth #618 how modern technologies are transforming industrial automation. With a clear focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning, the company will demonstrate how hardware-independent and therefore highly flexible machine vision software unlocks new efficiency potential across a wide range of industries—from semiconductor manufacturing to the food and beverage sector.
MVTec has a long-standing presence in the United States, where the company has maintained its subsidiary in Boston, MA for nearly 20 years. Dr. Olaf Munkelt, Managing Director and co-founder of MVTec, emphasizes the importance of the trade show: "We have been firmly established in the U.S. market since 2007, and Automate has been a key commitment on our calendar for many years. Today, efficiency and digitalization are decisive factors in maintaining competitiveness. Our software products help companies elevate their processes to a new level and achieve sustainable digital transformation through cutting-edge AI technologies."
Innovation up close
Visitors can experience the performance of MVTec's products like HALCON, MERLIC, and the Deep Learning Tool firsthand at the booth through practical, real-world scenarios. The demonstration of Deep 3D Matching in HALCON is a particular highlight. This deep learning-based innovation enables the robust detection of objects such as glass bottles, even under challenging conditions like reflections. The training is based entirely on synthetic data and therefore eliminates the need for time-consuming image labeling, significantly accelerating the implementation of bin-picking and pick-and-place applications.
In addition, MVTec demonstrates the Global Context Anomaly Detection (GCAD) feature in MERLIC using a printed circuit board inspection as an example. This technology not only detects local defects such as scratches but also identifies global anomalies like missing or misaligned components that only become apparent when considering the assembly as a whole. Another application example highlights the versatility of MERLIC in bottle inspection: from measuring the bottle neck and checking logos to reading expiration dates using Deep OCR, complex inspection tasks can be implemented quickly and without programming thanks to the no-code approach.
Maximum flexibility through hardware independence
One of MVTec's core promises remains the strict hardware independence of its machine vision software. Since HALCON and MERLIC are compatible with virtually any camera and sensor, users retain full flexibility in selecting their hardware components ensuring optimal results even in highly demanding applications.
Heiko Eisele, President of MVTec LLC, explains: "A key advantage of our products is their consistent hardware independence. It serves as a decisive lever for companies to optimize their production lines with flexibility and speed. Since we have been integrating deep learning methods into our software since 2017, we offer a tremendous depth of experience. As a result, our customers benefit from proven, high-performance technologies that can perfectly automate tasks that were previously unsolvable."
Expert insights at the Automate Conference
In addition to its presence at the trade show, MVTec experts will share their knowledge as part of the conference program: Agnes Weiershaeuser will speak on Monday, June 22 at 3:30 PM (CDT) on the topic "From Hype to Hands-On: Practical Deep Learning for Industrial Vision." In addition, Heiko Eisele will give a presentation on Wednesday, June 24 at 8:00 AM (CDT) titled "Image Processing Fundamentals", which is part of the Certified Vision Professional Program offered by the A3.
